Automotive-grade internal switch for bus protection
The Texas Instruments TPD3S714QDBQRQ1 is a single-circuit internal switch designed for automotive applications, carrying AEC-Q100 qualification. It operates with an 18V working voltage, making it suitable for protecting 12V automotive bus lines such as CAN, LIN, or sensor interfaces against overvoltage and short-circuit events. The part is mounted in a 16-SSOP package (0.154" width, 3.90mm body) and is specified for surface-mount assembly.
The 18V working voltage sets the continuous voltage ceiling the switch can handle without breakdown. In a 12V automotive electrical system, this provides margin for load-dump transients and alternator ripple that can push the bus above 14V. For a 24V truck system, the 18V rating is insufficient — this part is targeted at passenger-vehicle 12V buses where the protection threshold stays below 18V.
16-SSOP package — footprint and rework
The 16-SSOP package is a standard small-outline footprint with 0.154" body width and 1.27mm pitch. It is compatible with conventional reflow profiles and hand-solder rework.
There is no last-time-buy risk for current designs. For volume procurement, the base product number TPD3S714 can be used to search across multiple reel and tube options.
