The 6V clamping voltage is the key parametric: it keeps the USB data and VBUS lines below the absolute-maximum rating of most 5V-tolerant automotive USB PHYs and transceivers. If a short to a 12V or 24V automotive battery rail occurs on the USB connector, the TPD2S703QDGSRQ1 shunts the excess voltage before it reaches the controller.
