What this ESD diode protects — and what it doesn't
The Texas Instruments TPD2E009DBZR is a steering (rail-to-rail) TVS diode array packing two unidirectional channels into a SOT-23-3 package. It's designed specifically to clamp fast transients on high-speed differential signal lines — think HDMI and Ethernet ports where a single ESD event can kill the PHY or the port IC. The rail-to-rail steering topology shunts the surge to the supply rails rather than to ground, which keeps the signal lines clean and the common-mode disturbance low.
Peak pulse power is rated at 45W, with a clamping voltage of 8V at 1A peak pulse current (8/20µs waveform). That's modest — this part is sized for ESD protection, not for surviving sustained overvoltage or lightning surges. On the repair bench, if you find a TPD2E009DBZR with a visible scorch mark or a short between any two pins, the part absorbed more energy than its 45W rating can handle. The reverse standoff voltage is 5.5V max, so it sits comfortably on 3.3V or 5V rails without leaking; breakdown starts at 7V minimum.
Industrial temperature range — fits most gear
It's not the part for under-hood automotive or outdoor telecom cabinets that see 105°C+; for those you'd step up to an AEC-Q101 rated device with a higher temperature ceiling.
