Two-channel rail-to-rail steering diode for Ethernet PHY protection
The Texas Instruments TPD2E001DZDR is a two-channel steering (rail-to-rail) diode array designed to clamp ESD transients on high-speed data lines. It targets Ethernet interfaces, where it shunts overvoltage events to the supply rails before they reach the PHY. The part integrates two unidirectional channels in a single 4-SOP package, saving board space versus discrete diodes.
Clamping thresholds and signal compatibility
The reverse standoff voltage is rated at 5.5V maximum, meaning the diode array does not conduct appreciably below that level. This makes it suitable for protecting 3.3V and 5V signal lines common on Ethernet magnetics and PHY-side traces. The minimum breakdown voltage is 11V, which defines the point where the device begins to avalanche-clamp. Between 5.5V and 11V the steering diodes forward-bias to the supply rails, routing the transient energy away from the protected IC.
It is not AEC-Q qualified, so it is not a direct fit for under-hood automotive applications, but it works well in controlled or ventilated enclosures.
The 4-SOP supplier device package footprint is compact enough for dense PCB layouts near the Ethernet connector or PHY. Power line protection is built in, so the steering diodes can clamp transients on both signal and power rails without additional external components.
