What this TVS diode protects — and what it doesn't
Its 3.6 V max reverse standoff voltage means it stays off below that rail voltage, so it suits 3.3 V and lower-voltage interfaces. The 8.5 V typical clamping voltage defines the maximum voltage the protected IC sees during an ESD or surge event — lower clamping gives better protection margin. Peak pulse power is rated at 50 W, and the device handles 6.3 A peak pulse current (8/20 µs waveform). That is a modest surge rating — fine for ESD and small transients, but not for high-energy lightning or industrial surge requirements. The 1 pF capacitance at 1 MHz keeps signal edges clean on high-speed lines like USB 2.0, HDMI, or gigabit Ethernet. It comes in an 0402 (1006 Metric) surface-mount package, occupying minimal board area.
The 0402 (1006 Metric) case is small — 1.0 mm × 0.6 mm. The supplier device package is 2-X1SON (1x.60). That tiny footprint demands careful PCB layout: keep the trace between the protected line and the diode short, and place the device as close as possible to the connector or ESD entry point. The low 1 pF capacitance means negligible signal degradation, but the parasitic inductance of a long trace can degrade clamping performance.
