Class AB headphone driver for portable and embedded audio
The Texas Instruments TPA6136A2YFFT is a Class AB stereo headphone amplifier in the DirectPath™ series, delivering 25 mW per channel into a 16 Ω load from a 2.3 V to 5.5 V supply. The industrial temperature range (-40°C to 85°C) suits it for outdoor handheld instruments, automotive infotainment head units, and industrial control panels with audio feedback — not just consumer media players. On-chip depop circuitry suppresses the turn-on thump that otherwise couples into sensitive headphone drivers, and the differential input stage rejects common-mode noise picked up on long PCB traces or ribbon cables connecting a baseband processor.
Package and footprint
Housed in a 16-ball DSBGA measuring 1.56 mm x 1.56 mm (supplier device package 16-DSBGA), this is a wafer-level chip-scale package. The ball pitch requires a controlled SMT process — standard reflow with a stencil designed for appropriate apertures works, but hand-soldering is impractical.
