Protection and shutdown features
The TPA4861D: On-chip short-circuit and thermal protection guard the output stage against fault conditions — the amplifier shuts down before the die temperature exceeds the safe operating area, then auto-recovers when the junction cools. A dedicated shutdown pin lets the system microcontroller pull the amplifier into a low-power idle state, saving battery draw when audio is not needed.
The 8-SOIC package has a 1.27 mm pitch with visible lead tips — easy to hand-solder or hot-air rework without a stencil. No exposed thermal pad means the part does not need a ground-plane slug for cooling; the copper traces under the body are enough for the 1.1 W dissipation at room temperature.
