Class AB stereo headphone driver for portable and industrial audio
The Texas Instruments TPA102DGN is a Class AB stereo headphone amplifier delivering 70 mW per channel into 8 Ω loads.
70 mW into 8 Ω — what that means for headphone selection
70 mW per channel into 8 Ω drives most portable headphones. High-impedance studio monitors will not reach useful volume.
Protection features that simplify the BOM
Short-circuit and thermal protection are integrated, so no external current-limiting resistor or thermal cutoff is needed. The shutdown pin allows the host MCU to gate the amplifier when no audio is present, cutting quiescent draw to near zero — a useful power-save for battery-operated designs. Pop-reduction circuitry (depop feature) suppresses turn-on/turn-off clicks that otherwise annoy the user and require external mute circuits.
