C2000 C28x Piccolo — real-time control MCU for motor drives and power conversion
It carries 128 KB (64K x 16) of Flash program memory and 8K x 16 of RAM, plus a 16-channel 12-bit ADC. The part is aimed at real-time closed-loop control applications — think field-oriented motor drives, digital power supplies, solar inverters, and industrial servo drives where deterministic PWM and fast interrupt response matter more than running Linux.
The 105°C ceiling is the industrial sweet spot — hot enough for sealed enclosures in summer, cold enough for northern-climate installs.
80-LQFP — inspectable, reworkable, no BGA hassle
Housed in an 80-lead LQFP (12x12 mm body), the TMS320F28054FPNT uses a gull-wing lead form that is straightforward to hand-solder, X-ray inspect, and rework with hot air. No underfill, no void-sensitive BGA balls. The 42 available I/O are enough for a sensor-rich motor control board with encoder, Hall, current-sense, and CAN transceiver interfaces.
Peripherals and connectivity — CAN, SPI, and PWM
On-chip peripherals include CANbus, I²C, SCI, SPI, and UART/USART for fieldbus and sensor links, plus a PWM module, watchdog timer, brown-out detect, and power-on reset. The 16-channel 12-bit ADC is sized for three-phase current sensing plus a few auxiliary analog inputs. Internal oscillator is available, so a minimal system can run without an external crystal.
