Accuracy — the number that decides fit
The TMP451HQDQWTQ1 is specified at ±1°C typical, ±2°C maximum over the full -40°C to 125°C range. For a production line monitoring battery temperature or motor winding heat, that ±1°C typical is tight enough to catch a drifting thermal profile before it becomes a fault. The ±2°C worst-case matters if you are setting a hard thermal shutdown threshold — leave at least 2°C of guard band below the trip point to avoid nuisance trips at temperature extremes.
Package and mounting for automotive boards
Housed in an 8-WFDFN package with wettable flanks (2x2.5mm body), this sensor is sized for automated optical inspection (AOI) on high-volume SMT lines. The wettable flank helps solder-joint inspection on bottom-terminated packages — a requirement for many automotive Tier-1s. Mount it close to the remote sensing target; long traces pick up noise that degrades the remote-channel accuracy.
Built-in features for system-level control
The part includes a one-shot conversion mode for low-power polling, a programmable limit register that can assert an output switch (ALERT/THERM) without polling the bus, and a shutdown mode that drops quiescent current. These are useful in battery-powered or intermittently-sensed automotive modules — the controller can wake the sensor, take a reading, and put it back to sleep.
