Low-voltage, low-power omnipolar Hall switch for battery-operated position sensing
The TMAG5231C1GQDMRR is an omnipolar Hall-effect switch from Texas Instruments that detects the presence of either a north or south magnetic pole. The push-pull output stage eliminates the external pull-up resistor that open-drain switches require, saving one component per channel on the BOM. Magnetic switching thresholds and output behavior
The switch trips at ±4 mT (typical at 25°C) and releases at ±1.2 mT, giving a 2.8 mT hysteresis window that prevents chatter at the switching threshold. The omnipolar response means the output asserts regardless of which pole faces the sensor — a magnet approaching from either direction triggers the same logic state, simplifying mechanical alignment in assembly. Output current is rated at 5 mA max, sufficient to drive a logic input on a microcontroller or a low-power LED indicator.
