80 MHz Cortex-M4F with hardware FPU
The TM4C123BH6ZRBI7 is a Tiva C series microcontroller from Texas Instruments built around an ARM Cortex-M4F core running at 80 MHz. The integrated single-precision floating-point unit handles sensor fusion math and motor-control loops without software emulation overhead. 256 KB of on-chip Flash and 32K x 8 of SRAM support moderate-sized application code and real-time data buffers, while 2K x 8 of EEPROM stores calibration constants and configuration parameters across power cycles.
I/O and connectivity for industrial control
120 general-purpose I/O pins give this MCU the pin count for parallel display interfaces, keypad matrices, and multiple sensor banks. On-chip connectivity includes CAN, I2C, SPI, SSI, UART/USART, IrDA, Microwire, and QEI — enough protocol coverage to talk to motor encoders, remote I/O modules, and serial displays without external bridge chips. The 24-channel 12-bit ADC captures analog feedback from current shunts or thermistors directly.
Housed in a 157-ball VFBGA (Microstar Junior, 9x9 mm body), this is a surface-mount package. Supply voltage spans 1.08 V to 3.63 V.
On-chip peripherals reduce external BOM
Internal oscillator, brown-out detect, POR, watchdog timer, and DMA controller are integrated on die. Motion PWM outputs drive H-bridge or three-phase inverter stages directly. These on-chip blocks reduce the external component count for a basic controller board to little more than decoupling caps and a programming header.
