80 MHz Cortex-M4F with hardware FPU — what it buys the control loop
The TI TM4C123BE6PMI7 is a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4F microcontroller from the Tiva C series, clocked at 80 MHz with a single-cycle hardware floating-point unit. That FPU matters for motor-control observers, sensor-fusion filters, and any PID loop where fixed-point scaling costs cycles or headroom. The 128 KB of program Flash and 32 KB of SRAM support a moderate firmware image with room for a real-time OS kernel and a few hundred variables — enough for a distributed I/O node or a single-axis servo drive, not a multi-axis CNC with vision. The 43 I/O lines support CAN, I²C, SPI, UART, and QEI. The internal oscillator keeps the BOM lean.
