80 MHz Cortex-M4F — what the core speed means for the BOM
The TM4C1232C3PMI7R is a Texas Instruments Tiva C Series 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4F microcontroller clocked at 80 MHz. That core speed, combined with the single-cycle multiply and hardware FPU, handles real-time control loops and sensor fusion without a separate DSP. For a BOM line, this means the MCU can service a CANbus node, a USB virtual COM port, and a 12-bit ADC scan sequence without stalling the control loop — the 80 MHz headroom absorbs the protocol overhead.
Memory and peripheral fit
Program memory is 32 KB Flash, with 12K x 8 RAM and 2K x 8 EEPROM on-chip. The 32 KB Flash suits firmware for a single-protocol gateway or a motor-control state machine; if the application logs parameters to EEPROM, the 2 KB endurance budget handles thousands of write cycles. The 49 I/O lines in a 64-LQFP package give enough pins for a 7-segment display bank, a keypad matrix, and a few opto-isolated inputs.
