80 MHz Cortex-M4F with FPU — real-time control headroom
The Texas Instruments TM4C1230E6PMT7R is a Tiva™ C series 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M4F microcontroller running at 80 MHz. The single-cycle multiply-and-accumulate and single-precision floating-point unit give this part the arithmetic headroom for closed-loop motor current loops or sensor fusion without a separate DSP. 128 KB of Flash and 32K x 8 of SRAM are sized for a single control algorithm with modest data logging; the 2K x 8 EEPROM holds calibration constants or boot parameters without wearing the Flash. The 49 general-purpose I/O lines, plus CAN, I²C, SPI, SSI, and UART interfaces, cover the typical industrial communication stack — CANopen for drive networks, SPI for external ADCs or encoders, and UART for Modbus RTU drops. The internal oscillator and brown-out detect/POR/WDT peripherals reduce external BOM count for a compact controller board.
