Low-power comparator for automotive sensor interfaces
The TLV7041QDBVRQ1: Its standout parametric is the 900 nA maximum quiescent current — low enough that in a battery-backed ECU that sleeps between ignition cycles, the comparator's own draw is negligible against the module's sleep budget.
Response time and threshold accuracy
Propagation delay is 3 µs maximum — fast enough to catch overcurrent or overvoltage events in a 100 kHz switching power stage, but not intended for high-speed comparators in GHz-class signal chains. Internal 17 mV hysteresis eliminates output chatter on slowly ramping inputs without external positive feedback resistors, saving one or two passives per channel. Maximum input offset voltage is 8 mV at 5 V supply; for a 50 mV threshold, this represents a 16 % uncertainty, so the designer should budget the offset into the trip-point calculation rather than relying on the typical value. Input bias current is 2 pA typical at 5 V — negligible for a 10 kΩ source impedance but significant if the source impedance exceeds 100 MΩ, where the bias current drop across the source resistance becomes comparable to the offset.
Output stage and noise immunity
The open-drain, rail-to-rail output sinks up to 40 mA at 5 V, enough to drive a small relay coil or an optocoupler LED directly, though the SOT-23-5 package's thermal limit should be checked for continuous high-current sinking. Common-mode rejection ratio is 73 dB typical, and power-supply rejection ratio is 77 dB typical — these figures mean that a 100 mV ripple on the supply rail couples less than 15 µV to the input-referred offset, keeping the threshold stable in noisy automotive environments.
Housed in a 5-pin SOT-23-5 (SC-74A) package, the TLV7041QDBVRQ1 occupies roughly 3 mm × 3 mm of board area and is compatible with standard SOT-23-5 footprint land patterns. The single-element comparator requires no external compensation; the open-drain output allows wired-OR connections with other open-drain devices on the same pull-up resistor.
Lifecycle and compliance
Fully ROHS3 compliant, with no restricted substances above the exemption thresholds; the part carries the standard TI green marking.
