Dual 12-bit DAC in a hermetic CDIP-8
It integrates two independent DAC channels with a buffered voltage output, each settling to within ±0.5 LSB in 3 µs.
A 3 µs settling time to ±0.5 LSB means each DAC channel can update at over 300 kHz before the output has not settled to within 1/2 LSB of the final value. For a closed-loop servo or a waveform generator, this settling time sets the upper bound on the update rate — a 10 kHz sine wave with 32 points per cycle requires a 320 kHz update, which this DAC meets with margin. The external reference input (REF) lets the user scale the full-scale output independently of the supply rails, useful for ratiometric measurements or matching an ADC reference voltage.
Military temperature range and hermetic package
The 8-CDIP package (0.300-inch body width, 7.62 mm) is a hermetic ceramic DIP with a glass-to-metal seal — no moisture ingress, no outgassing into sealed enclosures. This combination is the standard choice for satellite payloads, missile guidance electronics, downhole instrumentation, and other environments where a plastic SOIC or TSSOP would fail reliability screening. The through-hole mounting (0.100-inch pitch) is compatible with standard DIP sockets or hand-soldered into a PCB with plated through-holes.
Supply flexibility and dual-channel independence
Each of the two DACs has its own output buffer and can be updated independently via the serial interface. The string-DAC architecture (resistor ladder) gives monotonic performance over temperature, which matters when the output must never decrease as the digital code increases — a requirement in closed-loop setpoint control.
