Precision shunt reference in a through-hole TO-92
The TLV431BQLP is a low-voltage, three-terminal adjustable shunt regulator from the TLV431 family, specified with a ±0.5% reference tolerance. It operates as a shunt reference, sinking current through the cathode to regulate the output voltage set by two external resistors. The output is adjustable from 1.24 V up to 6 V, with a cathode current range from 100 µA to 15 mA. The 15 mA output current ceiling defines the minimum cathode resistor value and the maximum load the shunt can sink while maintaining regulation.
TO-92-3 package — board-level fit and replacement
Housed in a TO-226-3 (TO-92-3) through-hole package, the TLV431BQLP is a direct-fit replacement for legacy shunt references in existing PCB layouts. The three leads — cathode, anode, and reference — follow the standard pinout for the TO-92 family. The through-hole form factor is preferred for prototyping, rework, and applications where vibration resistance or manual soldering is a factor. No exposed thermal pad; the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance is set by the lead length and board copper.
