What this shunt reference does on your rail
The output is adjustable from 1.24 V up to 6 V, and the ±0.5% tolerance means the regulation point stays tight across temperature and load, which matters when you are feeding an ADC reference or setting a comparator threshold in a power supply feedback loop.
The 100 µA minimum cathode current keeps it biased even in low-power standby rails, and the 15 mA output current is enough to drive an optocoupler LED or pull up a comparator input. No derating guesswork: the operating range is the same as the storage range, which simplifies BOM qualification for harsh environments.
Housed in a 6-pin SC-70-6 (SOT-363) package, this is a small part — roughly 2.0 mm × 1.25 mm. The cathode, anode, and reference pins follow the standard TLV431 pinout, so it drops onto the same footprint as the wider TL431 family in SOT-23, but saves board area. For a rework tech: the SC-70 body is small enough that tweezers and a fine-tip iron work, but a hot-air station at 300°C with a 3 mm nozzle is cleaner. No exposed pad, so no thermal-via planning needed.
