Shunt reference for precision bias rails
The shunt architecture means it sinks current through the cathode to regulate the output voltage, with a minimum cathode current of 100 µA and a maximum output current of 15 mA.
The ±0.5% tolerance is a BOM-fit differentiator: it tightens the reference accuracy over the standard 1% TLV431 grade, reducing the worst-case voltage error in ADC reference or comparator threshold circuits. The adjustable output spans 1.24 V (the internal bandgap) up to 6 V, set by two external resistors in the classic shunt configuration. For a 3.3 V rail, the feedback divider ratio lands near 1.66:1, well within the cathode current compliance.
The SOT-23-5 footprint is shared with the broader TLV431 family, so a drop-in replacement for the standard-grade version is straightforward if tolerance requirements relax.
