The ±0.5% tolerance on the 1.24 V internal reference sets the output voltage accuracy across the full 0°C to 70°C range — tighter than the standard TL431's ±1% grade, which matters when the feedback divider in a power supply or the comparator threshold in a supervisor circuit needs a tighter window.
15 mA output, 100 µA cathode — load and bias budget
That 100 µA floor means the part draws enough bias to stay in regulation even at light load — useful in battery-powered designs where every microamp counts, but the reference won't drop out. The 15 mA ceiling limits how much external load the shunt can sink directly; for higher current, the reference drives a pass transistor.
SC-74A / SOT-23-5 — footprint and field swap
That is a five-pin small-outline transistor package — common footprint for shunt references. On a board, the pinout is standard for the TLV431 family: cathode, anode, reference, and NC.
That is the commercial grade — fine for office equipment, appliances, and indoor power supplies. If the BOM calls for extended temperature, look at the TLV431A or TLV431B industrial-grade siblings.
