1.24 V to 6 V adjustable shunt — what sets the output
The TLV431ACDBVT is a low-voltage shunt reference from TI that regulates an adjustable output between 1.24 V and 6 V, set by two external resistors. The ±1% initial tolerance means the output voltage at the divider node stays within 1% of the target at 25 °C — tight enough for a precision bias rail or a comparator threshold, but not the sub-0.5% grade needed for a 12-bit ADC reference. The 15 mA maximum output current and 80 µA minimum cathode current define the resistor divider range: the bias resistor from the supply to the cathode must pass at least 80 µA to keep the shunt in regulation, and the total load plus divider current cannot exceed 15 mA.
It belongs in office equipment, appliances, indoor power supplies, and bench instrumentation — not in a motor drive cabinet, an engine bay, or an outdoor telecom enclosure.
SOT-23-5 package — rework-friendly footprint
The part ships in an SC-74A / SOT-753 package, commonly called SOT-23-5. Five pins, 0.95 mm pitch, a small but visible body. The low thermal mass means it reflows cleanly with a standard profile and lifts without pad damage under hot air if you need to swap it. No exposed pad, so no thermal-via design required.
