Product details

12-channel constant-current sink, shift-register controlled

The TLC5971RGET is a 12-channel constant-current sink LED driver from TI, using a shift-register topology to update all channels with a single serial data stream. Each channel sinks up to 60 mA, and the output voltage compliance goes to 17 V, giving you headroom for series LED strings or higher-voltage rails. The shift register interface means you clock in grayscale data and latch it — no PWM from the MCU needed per channel.

Package and board integration — 24-VFQFN with exposed pad

The 60 mA per channel times 12 channels is 720 mA total sink current — without that pad soldered to a ground plane, the junction creeps above the 85°C ambient rating. Surface-mount only — no through-hole variant. The 24-VQFN (4x4) supplier package is the same footprint as other TI VQFN LED drivers, so a board layout for the TLC5940 family will often accept this part with a firmware change.

Frequently asked questions

Will TLC5971RGET drop into a board designed for TLC5940RHBR?

Not without a board spin. The TLC5940RHBR is a 16-channel driver in a 32-VQFN package (5x5 mm) with 120 mA per channel, while the TLC5971RGET is a 12-channel part in a 24-VFQFN (4x4 mm). The pinout and footprint differ, so a direct drop-in replacement is not possible.

What is the output current per channel on TLC5971RGET?

60 mA per channel, constant-current sink. The 12 channels share a common current-set resistor, so all channels sink the same current.
