12-channel linear driver with shift-register interface
The TLC5971RGER is a 12-output linear LED driver from Texas Instruments, each channel sinking up to 60 mA with a 17 V output compliance ceiling. The shift-register topology means the serial data line daisy-chains across multiple devices — a single MCU SPI port controls an arbitrary number of channels without multiplying the GPIO count. Internal switches handle the current regulation per channel, so no external ballast resistors are needed for the constant-current sink.
24-VQFN package and thermal path
The 12 outputs at 60 mA each dissipate up to roughly 720 mW total — the pad-to-board thermal path is the derating limiter, not the silicon itself. Surface-mount assembly with a standard lead-free reflow profile; the exposed pad requires a solder paste stencil aperture covering at least 50% of the pad area to avoid voids under the die attach.
