What the dual 555 timer brings to a timing circuit
This is a dual 555-type timer/oscillator — two independent 555 timers in one 14-SOIC package, sharing only the supply rails. You get two monostable or astable blocks on the same die, which saves board space and keeps the timing intervals matched across channels because both halves track the same process and temperature. The LinCMOS construction keeps the supply draw at 720 µA typical per package — less than a tenth of what a bipolar 555 pulls. That matters if the timer is powered from a 5 V rail that also feeds a sensitive analog front-end: the lower current noise and reduced thermal rise mean the timing edges stay cleaner. It oscillates up to 2.1 MHz, which covers the common PWM and delay ranges for motor-drive blanking times, switch-mode power-supply soft-start ramps, and sensor polling intervals. The 5 V to 18 V supply range means it can run off the same unregulated rail as a relay coil without a separate regulator.
Temperature grade and package fit
Rated for -55 to 125 °C, this is the full military temperature range — the timer holds its timing accuracy from a cold-soaked aircraft wing to an engine-bay ambient. The 14-SOIC footprint (0.154-inch wide, 3.90 mm body) is hand-solderable with a fine-tip iron and fits on a two-layer board without blind vias. The supplier device package is 14-SOIC, so the same land pattern works for the standard 14-pin SOIC footprint — no special pad geometry needed.
