The TLC2578IPW is a 12-bit successive-approximation-register (SAR) ADC from Texas Instruments, sampling at 200 kSPS. The internal multiplexer selects between four pseudo-differential inputs or eight single-ended inputs, giving the board designer one device that covers both input architectures without an external mux. The 200 kSPS throughput suits medium-speed data-acquisition chains — think multi-channel sensor monitoring, motor-phase current feedback, or battery-stack voltage scanning — where 12-bit resolution is enough and the per-channel rate stays below 50 kHz per channel when all eight inputs are scanned round-robin.

The external reference input (REF) sets the full-scale range — no internal bandgap reference, so the system reference noise and drift directly affect the ADC's INL and DNL. The SPI data interface uses a standard 4-wire (CS, SCLK, SDI, SDO) protocol. The conversion is initiated by the CS falling edge; the result is shifted out on SDO during the next conversion cycle. The digital supply range means the interface works with 3.3 V MCUs like the STM32 or 5 V legacy controllers without a translator.
