PWM controller for multi-topology power stages
The Texas Instruments TL594IPWR is a fixed-frequency PWM controller that drives a single-ended or push-pull power stage across buck, boost, flyback, forward, half-bridge, full-bridge, and push-pull topologies. Its 1kHz to 300kHz switching range lets you size the magnetics for cost or efficiency — lower frequencies for through-hole transformers, higher for planar or ferrite cores. The 97% maximum duty cycle means it can regulate down to near-zero dropout in a buck configuration, useful for post-regulation rails. Supply runs from 7V to 40V, covering 12V and 24V industrial buses, battery stacks, and unregulated bulk rails. Two transistor-driver outputs handle external MOSFETs or bipolars; dead-time and frequency control are on-chip.
It fits outdoor telecom cabinets, factory-floor power supplies, motor-drive bias rails, and battery-charger controllers. The 16-TSSOP package is surface-mount, 4.40 mm wide — standard for automated assembly, but the fine pitch means visual inspection under magnification if reworking prototype boards.
