PWM controller for multi-topology power supplies
The Texas Instruments TL594IDR is a fixed-frequency PWM controller that can be configured for step-up, step-down, or step-up/step-down conversion across seven topologies: buck, boost, flyback, forward converter, full-bridge, half-bridge, and push-pull. It integrates two transistor-driver outputs, a 1 kHz to 300 kHz oscillator, dead-time control, and a 7 V to 40 V supply range, making it a workhorse for industrial and telecom power supplies that need one controller to handle multiple rail architectures.
97% duty cycle — headroom and dead-time trade-off
The 97% maximum duty cycle lets the controller hold the switch on nearly the whole period, useful for low-dropout regulation in boost or flyback stages.
Switching frequency range: 1 kHz to 300 kHz
The oscillator runs from 1 kHz to 300 kHz, set by a single RT/CT network.
