PWM controller with wide supply headroom
The Texas Instruments TL594CNSR is a fixed-frequency PWM controller designed for a broad range of DC-DC converter topologies. It operates from a 7 V to 40 V supply rail and switches from 1 kHz up to 300 kHz, covering most offline and intermediate-bus designs. Two open-collector transistor-driver outputs deliver up to 97 % duty cycle, which is useful for high step-down ratio buck converters or push-pull stages where maximum on-time is needed.
Topology flexibility and control features
The part supports buck, boost, flyback, forward converter, full-bridge, half-bridge, and push-pull topologies — a single BOM line that covers multiple power-stage architectures. Dead-time control and frequency control pins let the designer adjust the output pulse timing and switching frequency independently, which is critical for avoiding transformer saturation in push-pull and half-bridge stages.
