2.495 V reference — the anchor for the bias rail
That 2.495 V is the internal bandgap voltage; the output is set by two external resistors to any value up to 36 V. The ±2.2% tolerance on the reference means the actual Vref at 25 °C sits between 2.441 V and 2.549 V — tight enough for a precision bias supply or an ADC reference in an industrial control loop, but not as tight as the 0.5% or 1% grades in the same family. The shunt topology sinks current from the cathode to the anode to regulate the output voltage. With a 100 mA output current capability and a 1 mA minimum cathode current, it can drive an optocoupler LED in a feedback loop or bias a small signal chain without an extra regulator IC. The SOT-23-3 package (TO-236-3 / SC-59) keeps the footprint small — about 2.9 mm × 1.3 mm — so it fits on dense mixed-signal boards where every square millimetre counts.

SOT-23-3 — footprint and reflow
The SOT-23-3 (TO-236-3 / SC-59) is a three-lead surface-mount package. The pinout is standard for this family: cathode (pin 1), anode (pin 2), reference (pin 3). The small body means the thermal pad area is minimal — for a shunt regulator dissipating (Vin – Vout) × Iload, the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance is around 250 °C/W in still air. If the load current is near the 100 mA limit with a large voltage drop, the power dissipation can push the junction above 125 °C; a copper pour under the package helps. Reflow profile follows standard lead-free solder profiles — no special bake or moisture sensitivity level beyond the standard MSL1.
