Active production, ±0.5% tolerance — the BOM-fit tier
It delivers a ±0.5% tolerance on the 2.495 V internal reference, making it the precision tier within the family — the B-grade selection for designs that need tighter regulation than the standard ±1% or ±2% grades. Output is adjustable from 2.495 V up to 36 V via two external resistors, covering common 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V, and 24 V rail generation or overvoltage clamp setpoints. The 100 mA output current and low 600 µA minimum cathode current suit it for power-supply feedback loops, precision bias supplies, and monitoring circuits.
SOT-89-3 package — rework and thermal notes
Housed in a SOT-89-3 (TO-243AA) surface-mount package, the TL432BCPK has a large collector tab that doubles as the cathode connection and primary thermal path. The tab is electrically live — the PCB copper area under it sets the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance. For hand rework, the tab soaks heat; preheat the board to 100–120 °C before hot-air removal to lift the part clean, not the pad. The three-pin layout (cathode, anode, reference) is the same as the TO-92 and SOT-23 versions of the TL431/TL432 family, so a board laid out for a SOT-23 TL432 can often accept the SOT-89-3 with a pad pattern adjustment for the wider tab.
For those applications, look to the TL432B-Q1 series or industrial-temperature TL432 variants.
