Shunt reference with ±1% tolerance
The TL432ACDBZRG4 from Texas Instruments is an adjustable shunt voltage reference in a SOT-23-3 package, with a minimum output voltage of 2.495 V and a maximum of 36 V. The ±1% tolerance on the reference voltage gives tighter regulation than the standard TL431's ±2% grade, which matters when the feedback divider sets the output of a switching supply or a linear regulator.
Output current and cathode current limits
Rated for 100 mA continuous output current, with a minimum cathode current of 600 µA to maintain regulation. The 100 mA ceiling defines the load the shunt can sink before the reference voltage drifts; for higher loads, an external pass transistor is needed. The 600 µA minimum means the bias resistor must be sized to keep at least that current flowing through the device at all times.
That excludes automotive under-hood, industrial motor drives, or outdoor telecom cabinets where the ambient regularly exceeds 70°C. For extended temperature ranges, look at the TL432B or TL431A variants rated to 125°C.
