Adjustable shunt reference, ±2.2% — tight enough for most feedback loops

Its 2.495 V minimum output is the internal bandgap; the output can be set anywhere from that up to 36 V with two external resistors. The ±2.2% tolerance is tighter than the standard ±2% or ±1% grades, making it suitable for designs that need better than 2% initial accuracy without moving to a 0.5% part.

100 mA output — thermal limit in SOT-89-3

The device can sink 100 mA continuously, but in the SOT-89-3 package the thermal impedance limits practical dissipation. The 1 mA minimum cathode current means the reference always draws at least 1 mA to maintain regulation. That sets a floor on the bias resistor in a shunt configuration; the resistor must supply 1 mA plus the load current.
