Precision shunt reference in a small SOT-23-5
The Texas Instruments TL431IDBVT is an adjustable shunt voltage reference that delivers a 2.495 V minimum output with a ±2.2% tolerance. It can source or sink up to 100 mA and operates from the reference voltage up to 36 V. The SOT-23-5 package (SC-74A, SOT-753 footprint) keeps board area small, making it a fit for dense power supplies, bias generators, and comparator threshold circuits.
Output current and voltage headroom
The 100 mA output current rating sets the load-driving ceiling — enough to bias multiple op-amp stages or drive the feedback network in an isolated flyback converter. The 36 V maximum output gives plenty of headroom for 24 V industrial rails or 12 V automotive supplies without needing a cascode stage. The 1 mA minimum cathode current means the reference stays in regulation even at light load, so the design does not need a dummy load resistor.
The SOT-23-5 package is a standard footprint; the 0.95 mm pin pitch and 1.6 mm body width fit on two-layer boards without fine-line routing.
