Adjustable shunt reference with B-grade precision
The B-grade tolerance of ±0.5% puts it a step above the standard 1% grade — useful when the feedback divider in a power supply or the reference input of an ADC needs tighter accuracy without moving to a fixed-voltage part. It sinks up to 100 mA and requires a minimum of 700 µA cathode current to stay in regulation. That 700 µA floor sets the bias resistor value — for a given supply rail, R = (Vin - Vref) / 0.0007, and the resistor must also handle the load current when the reference is off.
SOT-23-3 — small, reworkable, widely stocked
The SOT-23-3 package (also known as TO-236-3 or SC-59) is a three-lead surface-mount footprint roughly 2.9 mm × 1.3 mm. It hand-solders cleanly with a fine-tip iron and lifts clean under hot air — no hidden thermal pad, no risk of tombstoning if the pad geometry is balanced.
