JFET input stage — why it matters for your signal chain
The TL082ACDRE4 is a dual JFET-input operational amplifier from Texas Instruments. The JFET front end delivers a typical input bias current of 30 pA, which is orders of magnitude lower than a standard bipolar op-amp. This makes it the natural choice for high-impedance signal sources — photodiode amplifiers, piezoelectric sensors, or precision integrators where bias current error would otherwise dominate the offset budget.
Rated at 13 V/µs, the slew rate defines how fast the output can swing under a large-signal step. For a 10 V peak-to-peak output, the full-power bandwidth works out to roughly 200 kHz — beyond that, the output waveform begins to slew-rate limit and distortion rises. The 3 MHz gain-bandwidth product (GBW) governs small-signal behaviour: at a closed-loop gain of 10, the usable bandwidth drops to 300 kHz. These two specs together tell you the part is comfortable in audio-frequency signal conditioning, active filters, and control loops that do not need wide video bandwidth.
The TL082ACDRE4 operates from a split supply spanning ±5 V to ±15 V (10 V to 30 V total). The 1.4 mA per-channel quiescent current keeps the thermal footprint low in the 8-SOIC package, even with both amplifiers active.
It is suited for benchtop instruments, audio gear, office equipment, and other indoor environments. For industrial or automotive applications requiring -40°C to 85°C or wider, look to the TL082I or TL082Q variants in the same family.
