It handles the physical layer interface between a CAN protocol controller and the differential bus lines, with a single driver and single receiver (1/1).
If your CAN controller runs on 3.3 V logic, the TCAN334DCNT is a direct match. The receiver output is 3.3 V compatible, and the driver input thresholds are also 3.3 V logic levels. For mixed-voltage designs (5 V controller), a level shifter or a 5 V-tolerant CAN transceiver would be needed instead.
Data rate and bus timing
Rated for 1 Mbps, this transceiver supports the standard CAN 2.0 high-speed data rate. At 1 Mbps the bit time is 1 µs, so propagation delays through the transceiver must stay well under half a bit time for reliable sampling. The 120 mV receiver hysteresis helps reject noise on the differential bus, which is useful in electrically noisy environments like motor drives or automotive power trains.
Package and assembly
Housed in an SOT-23-8 package (supplier device package same as the case), this is a small, surface-mount part that can be hand-soldered with a fine-tipped iron or reflowed.
