5 Mbps CAN FD — what it buys on the bus
The 5 Mbps data rate supports CAN FD (flexible data-rate) frames, which pack more payload per arbitration cycle than classical CAN. For a powertrain or ADAS ECU that streams larger diagnostic or calibration blocks, the higher throughput reduces bus loading and frees bandwidth for other nodes. The 1/1 driver/receiver count is the standard single-node interface; you get one CAN TX and one CAN RX pair per transceiver.
Supply rail and cold-crank margin
The 4.5V minimum supply covers the typical automotive 5V rail during battery cranking, when the regulated bus can dip below 5V. As long as the local 5V regulator holds above 4.5V, the transceiver stays in spec — no brownout or bus-off glitch. The 5.5V maximum gives headroom for load-dump transients that the upstream TVS clamp handles.
