5.7 W mono in a 42-ball BGA
The TAS2555YZR delivers 5.7 W continuous into a 4 Ω load from a single mono channel — enough to drive a small speaker in a portable speaker, smart speaker, or IoT audio endpoint. The Class D switching stage keeps efficiency high, so the 42-DSBGA package doesn't need a heatsink for most use cases. Supply voltage is tight at 1.65 V to 1.95 V — this part runs off the same 1.8 V rail as the SoC or DSP, no separate audio power rail needed.
Package rework reality: 42-DSBGA
The 42-DSBGA is a 0.4 mm pitch ball-grid array — that's a fine-pitch BGA, not a hand-solderable package. Reflow requires a stencil and a hot-air or convection oven profile. The thermal pad is on the bottom center, so the board needs a via array under the package to pull heat into the inner copper layers. The package is ROHS3 compliant, so the solder balls are lead-free SAC alloy.
Built-in protection reduces external BOM
Short-circuit and thermal protection are integrated on-die. That means no external current-sense resistor, no comparator, and no thermal cutoff PTC on the output. The protection folds back or shuts down the output stage before the die temperature exceeds the absolute maximum — the amplifier recovers when the fault clears.
