155 Mbps — what that buys you on the backplane
At 155 Mbps the SN75LVDS9638D comfortably clocks a 100BASE-TX PHY interface, a camera serial link, or a flat-panel display interconnect. That data rate is the typical ceiling for a standard LVDS driver in this package — above it you start looking at higher-speed CML or VML parts. The 3.3 V nominal supply keeps the output swing around 350 mV differential, which is what the receiving LVDS end expects. If your link runs at 50 MHz pixel clock or 100 Mbps Ethernet, this part has margin.
For a motor drive or an outdoor radio you would need the industrial-grade SN65LVDS9638 variant, which shares the same pinout and data rate but extends to -40°C to 85°C.
