LVDS driver for 155 Mbps point-to-point links
The SN75LVDS31D is a quad LVDS driver from Texas Instruments, delivering four differential output channels in a single 16-SOIC package. It converts parallel TTL/CMOS signals into LVDS levels at data rates up to 155 Mbps per channel, making it a fit for high-speed serial backplanes, clock distribution, and camera-link interfaces where the common-mode range and low swing of LVDS reduce EMI and power dissipation compared to single-ended signalling.
Four outputs, one package — routing and termination
With four drivers on die, the SN75LVDS31D handles a 4-lane LVDS link in a single IC. Each output pair delivers a differential swing of 250 mV to 450 mV into a 100 Ω termination resistor at the receiver end — the standard LVDS load. The 155 Mbps per-channel ceiling means the driver can sustain a 77.5 MHz clock or a 155 Mbps data stream on each lane before the output rise/fall time degrades the eye opening. The supply decoupling should sit within 5 mm of the VCC and GND pins — a 0.1 µF ceramic per supply pair, plus a 10 µF bulk cap near the package, keeps the switching noise below the 50 mV peak-to-peak the LVDS output jitter budget expects.
