Product details

Dual peripheral driver with 300 mA open-collector outputs

Typical applications include driving relays, solenoids, small DC motors, lamps, and other inductive or resistive loads from TTL/5 V logic outputs.

Each of the two driver elements can sink 300 mA continuously when the output is low. That is enough current to pull in a standard 5 V relay coil (typically 50–150 mA) or drive a small incandescent lamp directly. The open-collector output means the load connects between an external supply (up to the driver's breakdown voltage, typically 30 V or higher for this family) and the output pin; the driver pulls the pin low to energise the load. No high-side drive is provided — the output only sinks current, never sources it.

Supply and temperature boundaries

Do not plan to run this part from 3.3 V or from an unregulated 5 V rail that dips below 4.75 V under load.

Frequently asked questions

Can SN75453BD drive a relay?

Yes. Each output can sink 300 mA, which is sufficient for most 5 V relay coils (typically 50–150 mA). The open-collector output connects the relay coil between an external supply and the driver pin; the driver pulls the output low to energise the coil.

Is SN75453BD equivalent to SN75453B?

The SN75453BD is the surface-mount (8-SOIC) variant of the SN75453B. The 'D' suffix indicates the SOIC package; the underlying driver function and ratings are the same. The SN75453B typically comes in a through-hole DIP package.
