The TI SN75176AP is a half-duplex transceiver for RS-422 and RS-485 serial buses, packing one driver and one receiver into an 8-pin DIP package. It runs on a single 5V supply (4.75V to 5.25V) and includes 50 mV of receiver hysteresis for noise immunity on differential lines.
Active lifecycle — still a current-production part
ROHS3 compliant.
Through-hole DIP — field-swappable without a rework station
The 8-DIP package (0.300" wide, 7.62 mm pitch) is socket-friendly. On a customer site you can pull the old one with a chip puller and seat a new SN75176AP in seconds — no hot air, no solder wick, no lab bench. Keep a few in the field kit for RS-485 bus repairs on PLCs, VFDs, or serial gateway boards.
5V supply — straight into legacy logic rails
The 4.75V to 5.25V supply range means this transceiver mates directly with 5V TTL or CMOS logic without level shifters. The receiver outputs are 5V-compatible, and the driver inputs present a standard TTL load. If your design has moved to 3.3V or lower, you will need a different transceiver or a voltage translator — this part is strictly a 5V-rail component.
