Supply rail and bus compatibility
The 5 V ±5% supply requirement means this part cannot run from a 3.3 V bus — a local 5 V rail or regulator is needed. The half-duplex architecture uses a single twisted pair for both transmit and receive, with the driver enable pin controlling bus direction. RS-485 supports up to 32 unit loads on the same bus; the SN75176ADG4 presents one standard load, so up to 32 nodes can share the line.
It is not suited for motor drives, outdoor telecom, or under-hood automotive environments where industrial or military temperature grades would be required.
