Supply range and drive — what the numbers mean for your bus
The part is specified for 24 mA output drive in both high and low states — enough to fan out to multiple CMOS inputs or drive an LED indicator directly, but not enough for a 50-ohm backplane termination. The 74LVCH family uses a bus-hold circuit on the inputs, eliminating the need for external pull-up or pull-down resistors on unused pins — a BOM simplification worth noting in a cost-constrained design.
Logic topology — 8-bit buffer with 3-state control
Two 4-bit elements inside one package, each with its own output-enable pin. Non-inverting path: data in on one side, buffered data out on the other. The 3-state outputs let multiple devices share a common data bus — the part goes high-impedance when the output-enable is deasserted, so it does not contend with other drivers on the same trace.
Lifecycle and compliance — planning horizon
ROHS3 compliant, so it passes the EU Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive without exemption. TI does not typically provide UL listing for standard logic ICs.
