Two open-drain buffers in a tiny SC-70-6
Each of the two elements handles one bit, and the open-drain output can sink up to 32 mA.
Because the output is open drain, the high-level voltage is set by an external pull-up resistor to whatever rail the downstream logic needs. The 32 mA sink current is enough to drive an LED, a small relay coil with a flyback diode, or a wired-OR interrupt line shared by multiple peripherals. No high-level output current is specified — the part only pulls low, so the pull-up resistor value and the downstream input leakage determine the rise time and the static power.
Supply flexibility for mixed-voltage designs
In a mixed-voltage system — say a 3.3 V microcontroller talking to a 5 V peripheral — this buffer can sit on the 3.3 V rail and still accept 5 V inputs because the 74LVC family is 5 V tolerant on inputs. The open-drain output then pulls the line low to ground, and the pull-up resistor connects to the 5 V rail, completing the level translation without a second supply.
