Output drive — what 32 mA means on the board
Both the high and low output current are rated at 32 mA. That is the absolute maximum the output can source or sink while staying within the voltage drop limits. For a typical CMOS load drawing microamps, the margin is enormous. If you are driving a relay coil or an LED, calculate the series resistor to keep the current under 32 mA and stay within the package's total power dissipation — the SC-70-6 has limited copper to sink heat, so at continuous high current the junction temperature climbs above ambient. For pulsed loads or infrequent switching, 32 mA is fine.
The 125°C upper limit is the key differentiator from commercial-grade parts (85°C max) — if the board sits near a motor, engine bay, or power stage, this part holds the logic state without timing drift. The 74LVC family is characterized over this range, so the 4.5 ns propagation delay at 25°C will shift; plan for about 15–20% additional delay at the hot end.
