16-bit bus transceiver for mixed-voltage backplanes
The SN74LVC16646ADL: The 24 mA symmetric output drive (source and sink) is specified for the 74LVC series.
Supply range and bus-level translation
The 1.65V to 3.6V supply range lets this part bridge a 1.8V core logic domain to a 3.3V peripheral bus directly — no external level shifter. Because it is a single-supply transceiver, both sides of the bus run at the same VCC; if you need asymmetric translation (e.g., 1.8V to 3.3V), pair it with a dedicated level-shifting device. The 24 mA output current at 3.3V is typical for 74LVC and drives standard CMOS or TTL loads with good noise margin.
Package and board layout
The 56-lead SSOP (BSSOP body width 0.295 inches, 7.50 mm) is a surface-mount package.
Temperature grade and environment
If the board sees sustained junction temperatures above 85°C, check the derating curves in the datasheet for output current versus temperature — the 24 mA drive is specified at 25°C and may need derating at the high end.
