What this 3:8 decoder does on the board
The SN74LVC138APWT is a single 1-of-8 decoder/demultiplexer from TI's 74LVC family. It takes a 3-bit binary address on its select inputs and asserts one of eight active-low outputs. The three enable inputs (two active-low, one active-high) give you a gating option for cascading or chip-select generation without extra glue logic. Each output can sink or source 24 mA, enough to drive an LED indicator, a small relay coil through a transistor, or the enable pin on a regulator without a buffer.
Housed in a 16-TSSOP (4.40 mm body width). Surface-mount only — no through-hole variant in this order code.
