Product details

8-bit serial-to-parallel in a 16-SOIC footprint

The SN74LV594ADR is an 8-bit shift register with a serial input and parallel, push-pull outputs — the kind of part you reach for when a microcontroller runs out of GPIOs and you need to drive a row of LEDs, read a bank of switches, or fan out a control bus across a board.

Board-fit and supply rails

The single-element, 8-bit architecture means one shift register per package; if the design needs 16 bits, two of these cascade on the same serial data line, sharing the clock and latch signals. Because the outputs are push-pull, there is no pull-up resistor needed on the parallel port — the output stage drives high and low rail-to-rail within the supply limits.
